Viscosity Modifying Agent

Role details

*What are viscosity modifying agents used for?*

Viscosity is a measure of a substance's thickness.

Water is a "thin" substance with low viscosity whereas glue is a "thick" substance with a high viscosity.

Viscosity modifying agents are added to products to control their thickness and stability. For example, hair conditioner needs to coat every strand of hair evenly and a thicker consistency will allow it to do this more effectively.

Another function these agents have is to help keep ingredients mixed together. Sometimes ingredients used in a product do not mix well. A viscosity modifying agent can be added to hold the ingredients together and keep them evenly dispersed.
